INSANITY, California Right tackle Colton McKivitz and the San Francisco 49ers have reached an agreement to extend his contract by one year, which will keep him with the team until the 2025 campaign.
According to McKivitz’s representatives at AMDG Sports, the 2025 contract is valued at $7 million, with around $4.5 million in guarantees. McKivitz signed a two-year, $4.56 million contract last offseason, and he is about to enter his final season.
Originally selected by the Niners in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, McKivitz started five games in each of his first three seasons until assuming the starting position in the final campaign following Mike McGlinchey’s free agency departure.
In the previous season, McKivitz, 27, started all 17 games and participated in 98% of San Francisco’s offensive plays. Additionally, he participated in all three postseason games.
The Bobb McKittrick Award, which is given yearly to the Niners offensive lineman who most embodies the bravery, tenacity, and sacrifice demonstrated by the longtime offensive line coach, was cast for McKivitz by his fellow players on the line.
According to Pro Football Focus, McKivitz allowed 47 pressures in the previous season, which tied for tenth most in the NFL among all tackles. In three playoff games, he also gave up 12 pressures, as the Niners occasionally found it difficult to contain quarterback Brock Purdy.
This offseason, the Niners want to improve their pass protection on the line. Jon Feliciano, who played right guard alongside Spencer Burford, is scheduled to be released next week as an unrestricted free agent.
Throughout his career, McKivitz has also played guard, providing San Francisco options in the event that the Niners decide to select a right tackle with a high draft pick.
