Boston is keeping an eye on Jazz forward Kelly Olynyk’s availability, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line. Olynyk started his NBA career with the Celtics (2013–17).
Since he was a member of the Celtics when he forced Kevin Love’s shoulder out of its socket during the 2015 playoffs, Olynyk continues to face jeers whenever he touches the ball in Cleveland. Love missed the Cavaliers’ run to the Finals because of an urgent surgery.
However, that is now in the past because Olynyk has spent the last 15 games as Utah’s main source of energy. He’s the kind of player the powerful Celtics might stash behind players like Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis. And getting him might not require much.
Given that former Celtics president Danny Ainge is currently leading the Jazz, it is evident that the two teams have a close relationship. Brad Stevens, the coach Ainge appointed, is currently Boston’s head of basketball operations.
However, there’s a chance that other teams are also interested in the Celtics.
The 6-foot-11 Olynyk, who turns 33 in April, would seem to make sense for the Knicks as well, according to Stein, considering New York’s desperate need for size following Mitchell Robinson’s potentially season-ending ankle injury.
