On the most recent episode of “The Hoop Collective” podcast, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst disclosed that the Heat are anticipated to be among the clubs who could be interested in acquiring Donovan Mitchell through a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Windhorst also listed the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks as potential destinations for Mitchell.

Mitchell, a Bronx native, is projected to play for the Knicks or the Nets. However, Miami is when things really start to get interesting. They missed out on major trade targets like Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal, which is sad, but neither player is playing up to par with their respective new clubs just yet (particularly Beal, who has missed all but six games this season due to various injuries).

Miami now has the opportunity to pursue a younger, player with more potential, such as Mitchell (whom they were already interested in prior to his trade to Cleveland), while still keeping all of their greatest trade assets. Good salary-match components include Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry, and Duncan Robinson. Unexpected rookie sensation Jaime Jaquez Jr. and breakthrough playoff player Caleb Martin are potential add-ons.
