ESPN’s Keyshawn Johnson predicts the 19-year-old will play for the Los Angeles Lakers in the future, despite the excitement between the two parties as they begin their adventure together.
“Wembanyama is going to be brought up to speed with the Spurs before he becomes a Laker in the next five years,” Johnson stated to Kens5. That being said, that is my perspective on it.
He added: “In the end, he’ll have a purple and gold on because you know we target guys. We specifically look for certain guys. That’s what we do.” The Los Angeles Lakers have a long history of targeting superstars in free agents. The iconic franchise signed the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, and LeBron James via free agency. Wembanyama has the potential to become the next superstar in the league. He averaged 21.6 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 2.4 APG, 0.7 SPG, and 3.0 BPG for the Metropolitans 92 last season.

Just like any other elite prospect, Wembanyama’s goal is to win an NBA Championship. Getting drafted into the Spurs is a match made in heaven for the big man. The Spurs are currently in a four-year playoff drought, which they will hope ends in the 2023-24 NBA season.
