After a contentious conclusion to the game, James and the Los Angeles Lakers lost 108-106 to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
In the waning seconds, behind three points, LeBron made what seemed to be the game-winning three-pointer. But the shot was only called a two. James and the other Lakers were clearly upset that the play was reviewed and that the decision was finally maintained. They even attempted to use the television at the media table to present their case to the officials. However, it was ineffective.
On the subsequent inbounds play, Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards was fouled and missed two free throws. The Lakers’ inability to win or tie the game brought significant attention to the contentious two-pointer.
LeBron was still unhappy with the call after the game.
“It’s definitely a three,” he said to reporters in an ESPN video that Dave McMenamin posted. “I’m stepping over the line. You can see, basically, how much room there is between my front foot and the three-point line. There is a gap between the front of my foot and the three-point line, and you can plainly see a white and the wood on the floor. Champ, Stevie Wonder is aware of that.
LeBron went back to the potential game-winning three-pointer after speaking briefly about the last play of the contest.
“It’s really annoying because we have replay, but for what the hell is it used for? If even the playback makes a mistake, what good is replay?
