The tabloid revealed on its website on December 30 that the Toffees are keeping a tight eye on the 20-year-old’s development at Portsmouth, the league’s top team, with the goal of keeping him until the end of the campaign.
Portsmouth is optimistic that they can keep the Australian international at Fratton Park until the end of the season, even though Man City has the option to terminate his season-long loan early. They also hope to have him back on loan the following year.
For Robertson to rejoin Man City for the upcoming season, Portsmouth must be promoted to the Championship in order for Man City to use loan agreements as a means of developing the player.
It is unclear, though, if Robertson is part of the plans of the reigning Premier League winners or if he will be traded for “big money” like several of his former colleagues have done.
Robertson, who joined on loan this summer, has grown to be a beloved player at Fratton Park. Just two of Portsmouth’s 24 league games this season—of which he has started 19—have the midfielder missed.
In that time, he has contributed one goal and three assists while also receiving eight yellow cards. If Robertson wants to play senior football for Man City, he will need to get a lot more experience since he is still a very raw talent.
