This season, the St. Louis Cardinals have been dealing with injuries left and right, and it appears like one of their veterans might not be returning anytime soon.

Similar to several Major League Baseball teams, St. Louis has already experienced significant injury setbacks this season. The Cardinals are struggling to find a winning formula, and it appears like they won’t be receiving any reinforcements anytime soon unless something miraculous happens.

Due to an oblique injury, veteran slugger Matt Carpenter hasn’t played for the Cardinals since the beginning of April. According to MLB.com’s John Denton, there is currently “no date” established for a minor league assignment, despite the fact that it has appeared as though he was near to a return on several times.

“The Cardinals still have no date for when (designated hitter/first baseman) Matt Carpenter (strained oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment,” Denton stated. “Carpenter, who has been out since April 2, has taken (batting practice) on the pitch several times, but he was recently shut down after receiving a cortisone injection.”Although he seemed to have made improvement, his oblique still hasn’t healed completely.

Carpenter is still a vital member of the Cardinals’ roster even though he isn’t as good as he once was. In addition to helping to fill in at first base, he offers depth off the bench. He also serves as the club’s leader and a significant voice in the clubhouse.
