One of the key outfielders for the St. Louis Cardinals could return shortly.Before a shoulder injury towards the conclusion of Spring Training, young outfielder Dylan Carlson looked to be the team’s starting centre fielder on Opening Day. Tommy Edman’s injury prevented Carlson from competing with Victor Scott II for the starting position, which he appeared to have secured prior to suffering a shoulder injury.
Although he hasn’t yet made an appearance in a game this season, that could quickly change. According to John Denton of MLB.com, Carlson will allegedly make a significant advancement and start a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday or Wednesday.
“Cardinals (centre fielder) Dylan Carlson (sprained left shoulder) will begin his Minor League rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday or Wednesday, manager Oli Marmol said,” Denton stated.
Carlson is expected to assume a major role with St. Louis if he stays healthy and can succeed in his minor league assignment. Edman remains injured, and Scott was just demoted. Jordan Walker, another young outfield player, was recently demoted as well, creating space in the outfield.
Despite having a lot of talent and placing third in the National League Rookie of the Year vote in 2021, Carlson’s career has been plagued by injuries ever since. Now that Edman, Scott, and Walker are no longer with the team, Carlson will have his finest chance in years to play a significant role.
With a 13–14 record, St. Louis is currently last in the National League Central, but supporters should have some optimism that things will improve.
