The NBA’s other teams view superstar Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets as a villain. This could be the reason behind Jokic’s surprising admiration for Gru, the cartoon series character from “Despicable Me”.

The 29-year-old Jokic flaunted his affection for—and commercial relationship with—the Despicable Me franchise by dressing accordingly for Saturday’s first game against the Los Angeles Lakers.Jokic imitated Gru’s appearance at Ball Arena by dressing in a black top, grey trousers and a striped scarf. The Serbian’s transformation from an unimpressive NBA player to cosplaying as an animated cartoon character was quite the wild ride.

It appears that Jokic collaborated with “Despicable Me” producer Illumination Studios to advertise the impending “Despicable Me 4” sequel.
Although the Nuggets star appears to be receiving a sizable cheque for this promotion, his affection for Gru also seems to be sincere.

The Joker smiled and said, “I love Gru, love the guy, and love the cartoon.”

Jokic acknowledged having a great deal of respect for Gru and the team when postgame reporters inquired about the Gru’vy attire.

During Saturday’s big postseason games, Jokic also made an appearance in a “Despicable Me 4” commercial, which might be the funniest NBA partnership since the KIA Hamsters.

In the commercial, Jokic is worried about some new “fans” he’s gained since starting to wear his “Gru” attire and is talking with a therapist about it.

INTERESTING FACT: Felonious Gru is Gru’s full name.

While Jokic strives to lead the Nuggets to consecutive NBA titles, Gru aspires to dominate the world.

Against the Lakers on Saturday, Jokic and his henchmen got their postseason hot start, making L.A. and LeBron James look disgusting.

In the Western Conference finals, the Lakers and Nuggets faced off the previous year. Denver is in a strong position to repeat as champions after sweeping the Lakers in the regular season. Denver took a 1-0 series lead after defeating Los Angeles 114-103.

The Lakers haven’t changed to match the Nuggets’ strengths since they were swept by Denver the previous season. Los Angeles is destined to experience the same playoff drama as last year, albeit in the first round, as they continue to lack height, fresh legs, and depth.

At the end of the Nuggets’ victory, Nikola Jokic recorded 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists.
