WORRISOME: The Mavericks to enter the 2025 Season without Major Star who refused Further extension

One of the league’s hottest teams, the Dallas Mavericks enter the 2024 NBA All-Star Break. They have improved their record to 32-23, good for seventh place in the Western Conference and just four games from a top-four playoff spot, going into the break on a six-game winning run.

But just because the Mavs are playing well doesn’t imply that every player will be back for the upcoming campaign. During the NBA summer, a lot may change between trades and free agency. Between now and the playoffs, some players are fighting for their jobs, while someone like Luka Doncic is guaranteed to be around for the foreseeable future.

In light of that, the following three Mavericks are probably playing their final season in DFW.

First, Tim Hardaway Jr.
Fans of the Mavericks weren’t even certain that Tim Hardaway Jr. would play for the team this season at one point. After all, there were numerous offseason trade speculations involving the seasoned wing player, but none of them ever materialized.

In his sixth season with the Mavericks, Hardaway has been a reliable contributor after eking out a trip through the rumor mill. His average scoring, rebounding, and assist total is 17.3. He is also making a career-high 3.2 three-pointers on 36.5% shooting per game. With Kyrie Irving and Doncic as the only other viable options for scoring, Hardaway’s services have been greatly valued.

Even so, it wouldn’t be astonishing if this summer the former Michigan Wolverine was traded. The Mavericks can use Hardaway’s remaining deal, which is worth little over $16.1 million in 2024–2025, to help them sign a third star to play alongside Irving and Doncic. The fact that he just has one year left on his contract can entice suitors who are hesitant to make a commitment to a thirty-one-year-old.

Although Hardaway’s tenure with the team will always be valued by supporters, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind losing him in exchange for a better player this summer.
