Dominic Smith, a first baseman, was finally acquired by the Chicago Cubs following several seasons of speculation. Smith brings a wealth of experience to Cubs Spring Training, having played for both the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets over the course of seven seasons.
The veteran spent the majority of the 2023 season playing first base, appearing in 153 games for the rebuilding Nationals. Even though his offensive output wasn’t very noteworthy, the Cubs seemed to be steadfastly interested in him.
