Coach Tom Izzo expressed pleasure in his players and praised the Boilermakers after the Michigan State Spartans men’s basketball team lost to Purdue 62-67 on Friday at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
After the game, Izzo stated, “I’m really proud of my team.” I don’t say that much. I felt like we had a lot of opponents today. Purdue, in my opinion, is a very strong squad deserving of their placement. Painter’s Matt is an excellent coach. They, in my opinion, have an equal opportunity as anyone else to win the National Championship.
Following the defeat, Michigan State’s overall record dropped to 19-14 (10-10 Big Ten), while Purdue’s record improved to 29-3 (17-3 Big Ten).
Where does it leave us, then? I’m not sure, but we will find out.
On Sunday night, when the final lineup of teams that have qualified for March Madness is announced, Izzo and his Spartans will find out. Popularly referred to as “Selection Sunday,” this mid-March date marks the opportunity for fans to start completing their brackets for the men’s and women’s competitions.
