The Giants are a major contender to sign veteran quarterback and Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson, according to NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks. The signal-caller for the Denver Broncos is anticipated to be released this offseason and rank among the best quarterbacks available in the free agent class. According to Brooks, Wilson might end up with the Giants, where he would have a real opportunity to win a title. Wilson is 35 years old.

Wilson was only acquired by the Denver Broncos last offseason, but they will probably cut him this summer in an attempt to save money. With 15 starts, Wilson guided the Broncos to a 7-8 record in 2023 while throwing for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.

Wilson is not the same player he once was, even though he can still play at a high level. Wilson was considered as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL from 2012 to 2021 while he was with the Seattle Seahawks, where he won a Super Bowl and was selected to nine Pro Bowls in ten years.

Wilson’s signing won’t probably be as difficult as one may anticipate. If the Broncos cut Wilson this offseason, he is reportedly willing to accept a sizable pay reduction and sign an NFL minimum contract. With their current $30 million in salary cap room this summer, the Giants should have no trouble signing Wilson to a cheap contract.

However, he would be entering a quarterback room currently led by the Giants’ $160-million man, Daniel Jones, and potentially competing with him and another rookie quarterback in 2024. This might make New York a less attractive destination for Wilson as he enters the final seasons of his career, looking to continue playing as a starter.
