Blinksportsnews247Yesterday was the last day of Ethan Horvath’s transfer from Nottingham Forest to Cardiff City, the winner of the Luton play-offs.
After joining on a season-long loan from the Reds, the 28-year-old played 51 games for the Hatters last season. He was a key member of the Town team that defeated Coventry City on penalties in the Wembley final to advance to the Premier League.
A permanent contract for approximately £1.5 million was rumoured to be in the works in the summer, but Luton ultimately decided against the move, and manager Rob Edwards reorganised his goalkeeping staff by adding Tim Krul and Thomas Kaminski in their place.
Horvath, who excelled at Real Colorado and also played for Molde and Club Brugge, was put on the sidelines after failing to secure a spot in Forest’s first team. He only made one appearance for his nation, during a 4-0 friendly victory over Oman in September. But in the end, he was able to relocate from the City Ground to Wales, where he secured a contract that would last until June 2027.
“I’m really excited to be here,” Horvath stated in a statement to the Bluebirds website. Here in Wales, the club is enormous. Before I arrived, I asked a number of people about the club, and they were all quite enthusiastic. They’ve played in the Premier League before. The manager is full of plans and objectives, and I am quite excited to be involved. I’m going to try my hardest to support the team in realising its objectives.”
“He is an international player with the USA and got promoted from the Championship with Luton Town & Nottingham Forest,” City manager Erol Bulut continued. He is familiar with the league, which is crucial for a goalie. We have two excellent goalies in Jak Alnwick and Horvath right now. Importantly, you are not limited to loan players. Signing permanent players is a must. Here at Cardiff City, I believe the goal is safe for the next few years.
