Football Insider reports that Ipswich Town is reportedly considering a transfer for Hertha Berlin attacker Derry Scherhant.

The 21-year-old is being watched by West Bromwich Albion, a Championship team, in addition to Town. The Berlin striker had already piqued the curiosity of Blackburn Rovers, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Still, it’s obvious that English teams have been keeping an eye on him.

Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich, wants to increase the team’s chances of promotion from the Premier League by being active during the transfer window. Although Jeremy Sarmiento, a winger for Brighton & Hove Albion, has already signed a loan deal, the former Manchester United coach wants to move some more players through the ranks.

Before being demoted to the second level, Scherhant played for Hertha in the Bundesliga the previous season. Last season, he scored his first goal in the Bundesliga for Hertha and also provided an assist against Borussia Monchengladbach. Scherhant leads his side to seventh place in the Bundesliga 2 this season with six goals.

TransferMarkt estimates the market value of the former Viktoria Berlin striker at £688k, although it’s unclear if the teams will try to recruit the German on a loan basis or if the agreement would be permanent. Both of Blackburn’s previous loan agreements for the player were turned down.Three points ahead of Southampton in third place in the Championship, Ipswich is currently in second place. The second-lowest scorers in the top 10 right now are the Baggies, who are ranked fifth. The Tractor Boys will still strive to win the race for the forward despite the statistics suggesting Carlos Coberan and his team may need the goals a little bit more than Ipswich.
