Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty to the Denver Broncos has been an extremely popular selection in mock drafts throughout the entire season. The latest mock draft from Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling has Denver taking a different approach.
Easterling has the Broncos selecting North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton with the No. 20 pick in the draft. Behind Jeanty, Hampton may very well be the second-best running back in the draft.
Surrounding second-year quarterback Bo Nix with more talent on offense has seemed to be the theme of the offseason surrounding Denver, and the projection of Hampton is no different.
Hampton was third in college football in rushing yards behind only Jeanty and Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo. Hampton was much further down on the touchdowns list, as he was T-18 with just 15 touchdowns in the season.
Along with his rushing stats, Hampton racked up 373 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
With the Broncos potentially losing starting running back Javonte Williams to free agency, Hampton would be able to compete for the starting job right away.
Denver’s rushing attack ranked 16th in the NFL in 2024 at 112.2 yards per game, which was the best out of the four teams in its division and the seventh best in the AFC.
Even though they could lose Williams, Hampton’s impact and talent could help elevate the Denver rushing attack.
