The Golden State Warriors have found success since immersing Jimmy Butler into their lineup. In the seven games since the former Miami Heat forward joined the squad, the Warriors are 6-1 and have found their stride as a squad. According to Golden State head coach Steve Kerr, there is plenty to be excited about, but there is still plenty of work to be done. “We’ve found something and it’s exciting but we can’t get too excited because there’s a lot of work ahead,” Kerr said. This certainly happens to be the case for the Warriors, who have benefitted massively from Butler’s presence — with Stephen Curry’s load lightening in a massive way.

However, the trade deadline could have played out in a very different direction had Kevin Durant not vetoed a trade that would have landed in the Bay Area for a second stint with the club. The Phoenix Suns and Warriors had a deal in place and Durant’s lack of wanting to be traded mid-season was the leading reason the move wasn’t made officially.

Having Durant bring his high-level scoring gravity alongside Stephen Curry and Golden State would have been beneficial, but he didn’t want to be moved mid-season.

“I didn’t want to move and I get why you want to trade me, simple fact that’s business but for me looking at it,” Durant explained. “…We can play the season out and if that’s the decision you want to make in the offseason then we figure it out.”

For Durant and the Suns, the relationship between the two sides might just be severed. The Warriors still landed a star forward in a deal, though, and their season has turned around because of such.
