The Denver Broncos feel like they are the Denver Broncos again. It has been a long time for fans who have had to wait to see the Broncos get back and though the season ended with a quiet playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, there is little question that the future is bright.
It will be an important offseason for the Broncos as they look to use free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft to add to a team that many feel will be a contender next year and going forward. But before we talk too much about that, we need to put a cap on the 2024 season.
That leads us to the team awards for the Broncos. See who took home the award in each of our categories for this season.If the Broncos didn’t have Courtland Sutton, the team would have major problems on offense. Sutton more than doubled the output of any other wide receiver on the team and earned the restructured deal the team gave him this offseason.
Sutton finished the year with 81 receptions for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns. He has put together a nice career for himself in Denver after stringing together a couple of solid seasons.
Defensive Player of the Year: Pat Surtain II This was a toss-up between Pat Surtain and Nik Bonitto and you could have even had co-winners.
Bonitto was incredible with 13.5 sacks and two huge defensive touchdowns and he earned a trip to the Pro Bowl for his efforts. I went with Surtain because of the things that don’t show up on the stat sheet. Surtain routinely eliminates the opposition’s No. 1 wide receiver and has put himself at the top of most people’s lists as the best cornerback in the NFL.
He had four interceptions this season, including this 100-yard pick six against the Raiders that was one of the most momentous plays of the season.
Collectively, the Broncos had a fantastic defense this season with several players who stood out, but PS2 is still the leader of the unit and one of the best players in the league.
Rookie of the Year: Bo Nix There wasn’t much to think about this year as Bo Nix was easily the team’s best rookie and he was so good that the future of the franchise looks extremely bright as a direct result. Nix was one of the best rookies in the entire league and was nominated for the Pepsi Rookie of the Year Award.
Comeback Player of the Year: Riley Moss After doing almost nothing as a rookie (6 tackles in 14 games), Riley Moss won the starting cornerback job opposite Surtain in training camp, soundly defeating Levi Wallace in an open competition.
Moss proved quickly that he deserved the job and though he had some rough moments like the Cincinnati game, he played quite well this season. He had 86 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
After his rookie season, the Broncos had no idea what they had. They know now that they have a cornerback who can hold his own at the professional level.
