The No. 8 seed Ohio State Buckeyes are heading into the semifinal stage of the College Football Playoff after dominating the early rounds. Ohio State defeated No. 9 Tennessee, 42-17, in the first round and took down the No. 1 Oregon Ducks 41-21 on New Year’s Day in the Rose Bowl.
Amid their immense success in the CFP, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and company received major recruiting news. On Thursday, four-star athlete Jakob Weatherspoon committed to the Buckeyes.
Weatherspoon is listed as a high-level blue-chip prospect in the class of 2026, ranked as the No. 9 athlete (ATH) and the No. 164 overall player in the nation, per 247Sports. Penn State was the biggest competitor in Weatherspoon’s recruitment, but in the end, he joined the Buckeyes’ top-20 recruiting class.
The Buckeyes will now prepare for the Cotton Bowl Classic, where they are set to face the No. 5 Texas Longhorns on Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Ohio State enters the game as a 6-point favorite, per ESPN BET.
Despite the betting odds favoring the Buckeyes, Texas holds a 50.8% chance of winning, according to ESPN’s Matchup Predictor, so it appears to be a coin flip.
