On the other hand, the Brooklyn Nets are projected to have a mountain of cap space next summer and could take on a player like Butler if they wanted to. For the time being though, it looks like Butler wants to remain in Miami and is aiming to land another contract with the Heat.

According to Adam Wells on Bleacher Report, Brian Windhorst said on the latest episode of The Hoop Collective podcast about the situation: “A few things on the Heat.

“One, as far as I know, I think Jimmy Butler wants to be in Miami. His goal is to get another contract from the Heat. He also, I think, has a player option in his contract. Which, I think, his intention is to probably waive and become a free agent. But he still has that out there.” Of course, it is worth pointing out that Butler has a player option in his current contract with the Heat. If he decides to opt out, he will become a free agent next summer.

Butler will need to prove his fitness to the Heat next season if he wants to get an extension from the franchise. He missed their entire playoff run in 23-24, as they were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the first round.
