The Lakers have finally moved to acquire a player from another team after a dismal two and a half months of inactivity.
Coming into Saturday, their only moves this summer had been to sign wing Dalton Knecht and guard Bronny James, the two players they drafted back in June. They have needed a 3-and-D wing and help in the big man department, but to no avail, as one free agent target after another rejected them.
But on Saturday, the Lakers reportedly agreed on a two-way contract with Christian Koloko, a 24-year-old free agent center who last played for the Toronto Raptors. He sat out all of last season due to a blood clot issue.
Koloko stands seven feet tall and weighs 230 pounds, and he was a second-round pick in 2022 out of the University of Arizona. A native of Cameroon, he spent a year at Sierra Canyon School in the San Fernando Valley. During his rookie season, he flashed his athletic talent and ability to rebound and block shots. He averaged 3.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots in 13.8 minutes a game as a rookie.
