The “Big Three” prospect trio of Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, and Kyle Teel began their next round of development on Tuesday for the Red Sox. Anthony took center stage among that trio of gifted players and delivered right away, helping the WooSox to victory.
In his debut game at Polar Park, the Red Sox No. 2 prospect collected three hits, drove in a run, and produced two excellent defensive plays.
Anthony said to reporters, “I was pretty nervous going to other levels last year, especially going to High-A.” “I didn’t really feel it until I went outside for the first time. I took a tiny ungainly swing at the opening pitch of the at-bat. I inhaled deeply and saw that my heart rate was rather low. Simply get out there and enjoy yourself.
Anthony valued quality left-on-left at-bats as much as the caliber of the umpiring. The 20-year-old also transitioned nicely in the outfield in Worcester, where he now plays center field. “I can say in the outfield at every level, I feel like the ball has found me, which it always does,” Anthony said. “I was only anticipating it. It goes without saying that clearing the first few ones out is beneficial. I kind of relaxed and just focused on the game. The same is true while striking. It is usually great to have the first one out of the way.”
