This offseason, the rookie cornerback has received praise from both defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and head coach Sean Payton.
Regarding the starting lineup, veteran Levi Wallace and second-year pro Riley Moss are now ranked above Patrick Surtain II, therefore competition is high for who will start opposite of him. But if he keeps playing this way, I wouldn’t be shocked if he was named the other boundary starter for the Broncos’ away opening game against the Seattle Seahawks in 2024.
Even if he doesn’t, I think his rookie season will provide him a ton of valuable playing time. Though there will undoubtedly be growing pains, he has extraordinary ball handling skills. He had seven turnovers during his four years as a college player for the Tigers. Cornerbacks with this kind of production are hard to come by. And it’s safe to suggest that more of that is to come in the future after he secured one in his preseason debut.
