Broncos lose veteran running back to hamstring injury vs. Colts 

The Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos squared off in their first preseason game of the year on Sunday, led by head coach Shane Steichen. The Colts aren’t expected to contend this year, but Steichen’s group demonstrated some encouraging signs during the previous year, suggesting that big things might be coming to Indianapolis.

One of every coach’s main priorities during the NFL preseason is for their team to avoid injuries, aside from the apparent objectives of establishing a rhythm and testing with possible new plays.

Sadly, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter, that wasn’t the case for the Colts on Sunday as running back Trey Sermon suffered a hamstring injury that would sideline him for the remainder of the afternoon. Having signed a new contract with the Colts in March of this year, Sermon is beginning his second season with the organization after registering 35 touches for 160 rushing yards the previous season. Sadly, Sermon has struggled with numerous injuries during his NFL career, which has prevented him from living up to the high expectations he showed at both Oklahoma and Ohio State during his draft by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round in 2021.

Prior to joining the Colts, Sermon was most recently a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was a part of their 2022–2023 Super Bowl run.
