Cameron Brink, the Los Angeles Sparks’ top rookie forward, was on her way to a successful first season in the WNBA when she sustained a season-ending knee injury against the Connecticut Sun on June 18. Brink tore the ACL in her right knee and underwent surgery, ending her promising first year in professional basketball.
However, Brink appears to be recuperating more quickly than expected. The 6’4” forward appears to be benefiting greatly from her youth (22 years old) and remarkable body as she strives toward a full recovery before the 2025 season.
She continues to attend Sparks games to encourage her colleagues, and her dress ahead of Los Angeles’ latest game attracted eyebrows in an unexpected way.
Brink, without brace. Brink shared a small video on Instagram Stories of herself walking inside Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles for the Sparks’ game versus the Minnesota Lynx. Brink, dressed in a leather jacket with a blue shirt and a white skirt, informed to admirers that she is no longer wearing a brace on the wounded knee—and she has returned to rocking heels.
This is clearly a stride forward in Brink’s recuperation; less than a month after the injury and subsequent treatment, she is now comfortable enough to remove the protective brace on her right knee.
It’s reassuring for Sparks supporters that there is a light at the end of the tunnel; LA is 1-6 since Brink’s season-ending injury, with one win coming against the two-time defending champion Las Vegas Aces. Brink has promised to returning stronger than ever in 2025, and along with growth from rookie scoring forward Rickea Jackson, the Sparks will be primed to jump up the standings next season.
