Speaking to the public for the first time since his postseason was cut short in the first round of the playoffs, Clippers star Kawhi Leonard stated that his injured knee was feeling fine, allowing him to compete with Team USA in the 2018 Olympics.
Though the knee issues that prompted him to miss the final three games of the Clippers’ series with the Mavericks were troubling enough that Leonard believed he may miss another Olympics, his return to the floor over the last month has reassured him.
Leonard declined to comment on Paul George’s decision to depart the Clippers for free agency, originally stating that he only wanted to address questions regarding Team USA. Leonard then reiterated that he had no issue with George or his decision to join elsewhere. When asked about his decision to play in Paris this summer, Leonard said the Clippers were supportive in enabling him to pursue something he’s passionate about, which he hadn’t been able to do previously.
“I’m just able to play right now. So I’m happy to go out there … with these talented players and be able to learn something from them. … I’ve always wanted to play against other talent overseas and just other basketball styles and plays. It’s one of the reason why I love the game. We could all teach each other how to shoot a basketball, but all our jump shots are going to look different.”
