The Dallas Mavericks recently advanced to the NBA Finals. When a club reaches that level, rival teams are likely to want to recruit some of the executives and instill a winning culture in their organization. That’s no different than what’s happening in Dallas now.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Dennis Lindsey is leaving Dallas to join the Detroit Pistons after serving as a senior advisor to General Manager Nico Harrison this year. Lindsey was the Houston Rockets’ Vice President of Basketball Operations from 2002 to 2007, an assistant general manager for the San Antonio Spurs from 2007 to 2012, and the Utah Jazz’s General Manager beginning in 2012.

He was promoted to Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations until 2021, when he stepped down to become an advisor to the Jazz. He’ll join the Pistons as the Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations.

Detroit is rebuilding its whole organization, beginning with the hire of Trajan Langdon as President of Basketball Operations. He swiftly sacked head coach Monty Williams and is constructing his staff from the bottom as he seeks to turn around a Pistons squad that has a total record of 94-290 in the last five seasons.

This decision may pave the way for a Tim Hardaway Jr. trade in the near future. It’s beneficial to have friends in opposing front offices, and the Pistons were reported to be the rising top trade destination for Hardaway. The sooner the Mavs get rid of him, the better, and this move provides Dallas more common ground.
