The Boston Celtics defeated Irving and the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 on Monday night in the NBA Finals, officially eliminating them from the running for the championship. The Celtics eliminated the Mavs in just five games, completing a gentleman’s sweep of the series.
Irving posted a message for fans on social media just a short while after the setback.

Possibly the most closely watched player of the Finals, Irving was an eight-time All-Star who fell short of expectations. With unwavering averages of 19.8 points and 5.0 assists per game on 41/28/100 shooting splits, he concluded the five-game series. Irving was unable to give Dallas the reliable No. 2 production that was required behind Luka Doncic because of his struggles against the defense of Derrick White and Jrue Holiday of Boston.
Furthermore, Irving, a former Boston Celtic, did not help himself during the series with remarks he made. Irving repeatedly made direct remarks about Celtics supporters, exposing himself to additional unfavorable press that finally caused him to crumble.
