In football, sacks are among the best results a defense can have against an offensive team, right behind turnovers. However, head coach of the Detroit Lions Dan Campbell recently played down the significance of sacks.
Dan Campbell was questioned about the team’s pass rush and their inability to get sacks last season despite applying a lot of pressure during a press conference.
Although Campbell stated that sacks “aren’t that big of a deal” as long as a team is pressing the quarterback, he also recognized that the squad “absolutely” wants to finish plays with sacks.
Campbell reportedly stated, “This morning, we watched a few clips in front of the team,” SI.com reports. Quarterback is eager to take the lead. The throw is high, so he can’t step up. He can’t move his hips around, and he’s flipping to his right. Make a toss. I’ll take anything that results in incomplete plays, turnovers, or any other poor play all day long. Though they only finished 23rd in terms of sacks, the Lions finished third in the league in terms of pressures last season, so that’s good news. Obviously, the team wants to see that pass-rushing performance carry over into this season.
