San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe stated that because the guy accused of breaking into Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry’s Atherton home in October to get an autograph did not show up in court on Tuesday, February 21, authorities issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
According to a case description from the DA’s Office, Sheng Gao, a 19-year-old international exchange student who lives in Cupertino, approached Curry’s security gate on October 15 at approximately 5:50 p.m. The gate opened when he pushed the “Call” and “Ring” buttons. He checked the front door, which was unlocked, and then went into the house.
The nanny insisted on knowing Gao’s purpose for being there and stated that he was looking for Curry’s “signature.” Wagstaffe claimed that he fled after the nanny gave him the order to do so. Police were summoned by the nanny.
Gao agreed to appear in court for a misdemeanour arraignment in December when he signed a trespassing citation, but he never showed up. According to Wagstaffe, after turning himself in at the Atherton Police Station, Gao was given permission to appear in court on his own recognisance. Gao was not present during the hearing on Tuesday once more.
His release from the citation to appear in court was rescinded by the court, and a $2,500 bench warrant was issued. Wagstaffe stated that once Gao is discovered, another hearing would be arranged. He can be imprisoned for six months for trespassing.
