Dawn Staley has witnessed a lot of outstanding women’s basketball. In addition to being a three-time Olympic gold medallist and a six-time WNBA All-Star, Staley is a three-time national champion coach. She is also a Hall of Fame athlete.

The living great cheered out a rookie for the Las Vegas Aces during Saturday’s highly anticipated WNBA game between the Los Angeles Sparks and the team from Las Vegas. Upon Martin’s first WNBA basket, Staley remarked, “Kate Martin is a G.” Martin has been crucial to the team’s success on Saturday because head coach Becky Hammon has faith in her to defend the team’s lead against some of the Sparks’ best players. Leading the young Los Angeles team are two outstanding rookies, Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson, who both have a unique effect on the game. With just two WNBA games under her belt against the top team in the league, Brink has already demonstrated her superior defence from her time at Stanford by blocking five shots. With 13 points from the bench on Saturday, Jackson was a productive offensive player.

Though their remaining rookie seasons will be interesting to watch, Brink, Jackson, Martin, and the other rookies in the league have all shown promise thus far. Although Caitlin Clark and her debut with the Indiana Fever have received a lot of attention, the remainder of the rookie.
