The Pittsburgh Steelers do not currently have a reliable No. 2 wide receiver on their roster as the wide receiver market continues to contract. Prior to the 2024 season, the Steelers’ most obvious hole is at receiver, along with slot cornerback.
The Steelers will most likely have to make do with a mediocre veteran option unless they pull off a huge trade for Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and Courtland Sutton. Simply put, there isn’t much out there. Hunter Renfrow, a former wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders, may be a good fit for the Steelers, according to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox.
Wilson (Roman) ought to start in the centre, with Van Jefferson and George Pickens probably on the outside. But Knox noted, “Pittsburgh should consider adding some more depth to the receiver room.”
Hunter Renfrow is still available, having just finished his 2021 Pro Bowl campaign a few seasons ago. The 28-year-old only gained 585 yards the previous two seasons due to injuries and a general lack of playing time, but in 2021 he recorded 103 catches and 1,038 yards.
Renfrow’s addition would give Pittsburgh access to one more strong slot option. In addition to possibly opening up the possibility of moving Wilson about the formation, it would add significant depth.
The Steelers had not been formally linked to any free agent wide receiver since they arranged a visit with Mike Williams before to his signing with the New York Jets and had discussed terms with Tyler Boyd earlier in the free agent process.
Following Diontae Johnson’s March trade to the Carolina Panthers, the Steelers have been searching for a wide receiver. They have not been able to sign free agent Mike Williams, who signed with the Jets, and they have at a standstill with Tyler Boyd. Brandon Aiyuk, a star player for San Francisco who the 49ers maintain they are not dealing, has also been checked out by the Steelers. However, among the possibilities for this person, Courtland Sutton may be the most intriguing.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, who were interested in Tyler Boyd, are still there. However, Odell Beckham Jr. is no longer available. Other players that inked new contracts this past week included Michael Gallup and D.J. Chark.
In an appearance on The Jim Rome Show on Friday, Khan stated, “We feel good about where we’re at, but obviously there’s still some unfinished business until we get into the season and we start winning football games and we reach our goal, which is to win a Super Bowl.”
