Is Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray going to be in trouble for his antics during Monday night’s lopsided loss to the Timberwolves?
After hurling a towel at officiating crew chief Marc Davis, Murray tossed a hot pack from the Denver bench onto the court and towards Davis a few seconds later. After disagreeing with officials, he also seemed to flash the “money” sign, which was a less evident version of the incident that resulted in the league fining Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert during the regular season.
Who tossed the heat pack was invisible to the referees. Chris Finch, the coach of the Timberwolves, deemed it “inexcusable.” Now, some are demanding that Jamal Murray be held out of Friday’s Game 3 in Minneapolis.
“I think he ought to be benched for a game,” ESPN’s Get Up host Jay Williams stated. “That was such an immature move by Jamal Murray and that could’ve been really hurtful and nasty thing to happen to Karl-Anthony Towns.”
Tim Legler declared that he would be “shocked” if Murray was not suspended, citing the possibility that Karl-Anthony Towns or another player may have slipped and been hurt. The heat pack slid across the floor as Towns was attacking the hoop for a layup, almost stepping on it.
“I don’t know how the league wouldn’t suspend a player for throwing an object, like any object, onto the court in the middle of the lane when there’s five guys actively playing,” Legler remarked as a reply to Williams.
