According to reports, the Indianapolis Star columnist who had an awkward conversation with Caitlin Clark during her Fever press conference last month has been suspended due to the strange incident.
Veteran reporter Bob Kravitz, who formerly worked for the Star, claimed that the publication suspended Gregg Doyel for two weeks in the days that followed his peculiar encounter with the WNBA player on April 17.
Kravitz did not state the precise start date of the reporter’s penalty, but he did point out that Doyel’s final Star article, which was on the Colts, was released on April 29. Kravitz continued, “May 13 is when Doyel is expected to return from the ban.”
When we contacted Doyel to inquire about the claim, we immediately got an automatic response saying, “Hey there. I’m going to take a break and stop reading my email since I’m exhausted.”
The message went on, “If I may be of assistance when I return on May 13, please let me know.
After the Clark scandal, Kravitz claims that Doyel, a longtime writer for the Indianapolis Star, “will continue to write columns off the team by watching TV from his home,” but he will not be going to any Fever games this summer.
Doyel had previously apologised for his actions in the hours following the incident. Doyel went viral for making a heart-shaped gesture towards Clark at the newser and then making some questionable remarks.
He apologised “sincerely” for acting in a “oafish” manner and that he was “just wrong.”
“I’m so sorry, Caitlin Clark,” he said.
Clark, for her part, never publicly addressed the issue and seemed to move on from it straight after, managing the remainder of the news conference without any problems.
