It is anticipated that the 2023–24 NBA MVP will be revealed shortly as the playoffs continue. The finalists for this season are Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, and centre Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets.
Jokic is the favourite this time around after centre Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers won the prize last year.
Jokic would be the MVP for the third time in four seasons if he were to win. Jokic, who has already won one Finals MVP, might follow in the footsteps of some legendary figures if he helps the Nuggets win another championship. Just five players—Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and LeBron James—have won two MVPs in the Finals and three MVPs in the regular season.

With 33.9 points per game and second-best assists per game, Doncic lead the NBA. following the All-Star Break, he is the third player in NBA history to average a 30-point triple-double, following Oscar Robertson (1961–62) and Russell Westbrook (2016–17). Doncic would become just the second player in Mavericks history to win MVP, after Dirk Nowitzki (2006–07).
Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder to the top seed in the Western Conference and finished third in the league with 30.1 points per game, behind only Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks. He would be the team’s third MVP since its 2008 move from Seattle, behind Kevin Durant (2013–14) and Westbrook (2016–17). He had a league-high 51 30-point performances this season.
Jokic is this season’s pick, as ESPN analyst Zach Lowe outlined last month, and NBA reporter Tim Bontemps’ final MVP straw poll makes the Nuggets star the clear favourite.
