The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 101-90 despite Luka Doncic’s first-quarter knee injury, taking a 2-1 series lead in the NBA playoffs.
“Not good, I felt it before I hit the knee,” said Doncic, who was clearly in pain following the injury but was nonetheless positive about his prospects of playing in the series. “I’ll try to go anyway; you know me,” Doncic remarked, “but it’s pretty stiff right now. We’ll know more tomorrow.”

Doncic had tallied 22 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Kyrie Irving also stepped up, contributing 21 points and six assists, helping the Mavericks overcome their shooting struggles from the perimeter, where they were just 9-34 (26.5%) as a unit.“I think defense dictated the offense,” Doncic said.

“I think we didn’t play great offensively, especially me, but we won the game, that’s all that matters.”Despite his injury, Doncic briefly returned to the game before the first quarter ended, though he was not at full strength. The Mavericks used a strong second quarter to build a lead they would not relinquish.
In the paint, the Mavericks outscored the Clippers 52–38 and secured 22 fast-break baskets as they controlled the paint. The team’s depth was evident as P.J. Washington, Derrick Jones Jr., and Daniel Gafford—who had been dubious due to back spasms—all made significant contributions.
Mavericks coach Jason Kidd stated, “We’ve talked about our energy, positive energy, protecting one another, and trusting each other.” It’s evident that there is excellent chemistry between them both. Just being careful not to make a mistake that would put our teammates or our team in danger is something we’ve always discussed. The boys performed admirably, in my opinion, and have done a nice job of looking out for one another.
The Clippers have trouble with shooting efficiency and turnovers. Although James Harden and Norman Powell both scored twenty-one points, their performance was marred by turnovers and bad three-point shooting.
The focus of the series will continue to be on Doncic’s health and his potential to contribute; additional details are anticipated following additional medical assessment. In an effort to extend their postseason run, the Mavericks are hopeful that Doncic can contribute significantly.
