Which player immediately comes to mind when the Dallas Mavericks are discussed? Dirk Nowitzki, the great Hall of Famer and former NBA MVP, has to be the winner. After all, the German power forward carried the Mavs for almost twenty years, winning the 2011 NBA Finals against the renowned Miami Heat, who had the “Big 3” of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, and guiding the team to the promised land.

But Luka Doncic, the phenomenon from Slovenia, has taken the Mavs by storm during the past six years.

Despite Dallas’ recent lack of playoff success, the nimble 6’7″ guard has racked up an incredible resume of honours, including four selections to the All-NBA squad, five selections to the All-Star team, and this season’s league scoring champion.Due to all of this, Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban has come to the conclusion that “El Matador” is the greatest Maverick of all time.

When the businessman and TV personality appeared as a guest on Run It Back, former NBA player Chandler Parsons questioned him about whether he believed Luka to be the greatest Maverick of all time. Cuban answered in the affirmative without hesitation.

Cuban retorted, “Dirk is going to disagree with me, but he is.” The distinction is that Luka has complete control over every facet of the game. You have to place the ball in Dirk’s designated spot. He won’t just attack and bring the ball up. And I believe it to be the main distinction.

The viewpoint of the vocal team owner is quite important. In the conversation about all-time greatness, Doncic is clearly favoured by Mavs head coach Jason Kidd, an all-time great point guard who helped Dirk and the Mavs win it all in 2011.

“You must not undervalue this young man. He is superior to Dirk. He’s surrounded by the best to ever do it, LeBron, Kobe, and Michael Jackson. For that reason, Dallas has never seen anything like what this 24-year-old young guy is doing. He is superior to Dirk, as I have stated in private,” J-Kidd remarked.
