Plans for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the 2024 NFL Draft are starting to take shape at this stage. Even with multiple free agent arrivals, wide receiver is still a major need for Pittsburgh, but a quality centre is by far the most important position on the roster.
After releasing Mason Cole, the Steelers did not add any veteran depth in free agency. Therefore, if the team wants a player who can start right away, they will have to either select a veteran or work out a contract with one.
Former West Virginia centre Zach Frazier was given three options by The Draft Network, and Pittsburgh was one of those teams they thought would be a good fit for him. Regarding Frazier and his suitability for the Steelers, they said the following:
This summer, the Steelers drastically altered their offensive line. They cut ties with wide receiver Diontae Johnson, Mason Rudolph, and Kenny Pickett and brought in quarterback Russell Wilson. Chukwuma Okorafor, a former starting tackle, was also cut. Since Arthur Smith was appointed offensive coordinator, general manager Omar Khan must add a centre who can supervise the installation of the new system. That kind of player is Frazier.
The only centre we rank higher than Frazier is Jackson Powers-Johnson of Oregon. We are huge fans of Frazier as a prospect. The only uncertainty around Frazier is whether the Steelers would rather select Frazier over Powers-Johnson with the 20th overall pick, or whether they would utilise it on him if Jackson-Powers is not available. Find a centre in the first round; Frazier is not likely to last until the Steelers’ second-round selection.
