John Campbell Jr., an offensive tackle from Tennessee, joined the team last year after playing five seasons for the Miami Hurricanes. With the Vols, he started nine games at left tackle, accumulating 25 appearances in that position over his career. Although Campbell performed admirably in his debut season, this autumn he will move to the right side.
Lance Heard, an offensive tackle with the LSU Tigers, was acquired by the Vols this offseason via the transfer portal. He still has three seasons left of eligibility and was a five-star talent in the 2023 class. Heard moved because he wanted to play this fall and the Tigers already had two offensive tackles capable of starting. That was something Tennessee could provide, but first Campbell needed to switch to right tackle. During his Monday media conference, offensive line coach Glen Elarbee complimented right side player Campbell on his development and effectiveness thus far.
