The Pittsburgh Steelers had to deal wide receiver Diontae Johnson, but it still leaves a big hole at wide receiver and calls for some experienced leadership in the wide receiving group. Mike Williams, who was just cut by the Chargers, might have the key to solving this issue.
In the third game of the 2023 season, Williams tore his ACL, and he ended up with just 19 receptions for 249 receiving yards. Williams would make a great acquisition to team up with budding sensation George Pickens, assuming he’s fully recovered. If his asking price is fair, he may provide this group stability and experience.
The only receivers on the depth chart are Calvin Austin III and tight end Josh Johnson, who is now with the Carolina Panthers. Austin is more suited to be a slot receiver given he only had 17 receptions the previous season. The Steelers may select a receiver in the draft, but they also need an experienced player to help control the team’s immature pride.
