Veteran point guard Patty Mills was signed by the Miami Heat, a rising force in the Eastern Conference, instead of your Los Angeles Lakers.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that NBA champion Patty Mills intends to bring his skills to South Beach.
Mills was waived last week after joining the Atlanta Hawks at the start of the season. The 35-year-old Australian guard played with the San Antonio Spurs for the majority of his career before joining the Brooklyn Nets as a free agent in 2021. As a sharpshooting reserve with San Antonio, Mills defeated the Miami Heat of now-LA superstar forward LeBron James in 2014 to win the championship.
Before being moved to the Houston Rockets last summer and then again to the Hawks four days later, he played for the Nets for two seasons.
One of the teams vying for Mills’ services in 2021 as a free agent was the Lakers. This buyout season, they had another chance to acquire the former champion. Rather, he’ll sign with the Heat, who consistently appear to be a threat throughout the postseason.
