Birmingham, Alabama – Billy Amick, the third baseman for Tennessee, was named the SEC Player of the Week on Monday afternoon following a strong run of play in the Vols’ four wins last week.

Amick led the Big Orange to another unbeaten week, extending their winning streak to ten games, as he maintained his wild start to the season. The junior slugger had a hit in each of the team’s four games, including three straight home runs for UT in the opening games of the week. Amick finished tied for the conference lead with eight runs scored during the third week, and his 21 total bases were the third most in the league. His four home runs during the third week ranked second among all SEC players.

During the first two games of Tennessee’s series sweep over Bowling Green over the weekend, the native of Batesburg, South Carolina, went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs scored, three home runs, and five RBIs. On Friday, he even had two home runs in the team’s 11-1 triumph. In addition, the rookie Vol demonstrated his defensive abilities with a number of outstanding plays at the hot corner. He recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage for the week, led the team in assists with nine, and helped turn two double plays.

In many offensive measures, such as hits (17), home runs (seven), RBIs (18), total bases (42) and slugging percentage (.933), Amick leads the team and leads the SEC for the season.

Amick joins AJ Causey as the second Vol to win SEC weekly accolades this season after the latter was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week on February 19. Amick is the first player from Tennessee to be named the SEC Player of the Week since Jorel Ortega on April 18, 2022.
