The Pittsburgh Steelers are still “on the radar” for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano, despite recent rumors that the Atlanta Falcons are “close to finalizing a deal” for Fields.
In their buzz piece from the NFL Combine on March 3, Fowler and Graziano stated, “Chicago’s Justin Fields decision is the major quarterback domino that many are waiting to fall.” “Chicago hasn’t played its hand, and according to multiple league sources, Fields—who hasn’t asked to be traded—could likely fetch a Day 2 pick in a possible transaction.”
The initial talk of a first-round pick has died down, making it more likely that the Steelers will be able to acquire him through trade. Naturally, not a single member of Pittsburgh’s leadership has mentioned Fields in public. They simply want to bring in competition for Kenny Pickett; they have never been a team that give an advantage to any one player.
“A trade has no set timetable, although the start of free agency is kind of a soft deadline. In order to propel a market, Chicago will require several clubs, and from what I’ve heard, I anticipate Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, and Minnesota to be considered.
The Falcons seem to be the team that is still most closely associated with Fields, as reported by Fowler and Grazino: “There’s plenty of smoke around Atlanta and Fields.”
Pittsburgh Newspaper Gerry Dulac, a Steelers insider, has stated on multiple occasions that a quarterback who is a lock to start will not be the competition. Fields won’t be wearing the black and gold very soon if Mike Tomlin, Art Rooney, and Arthur Smith feel that way.
