Waller, 31, has struggled to maintain consistent health since the 2020 NFL season while playing with the Las Vegas Raiders. In 2023, he missed four games as a result of injury.
Waller’s rookie season with the Giants saw him catch 52 catches for 552 yards and a score in 12 games. According to the New York Post, he was considering putting up his cleats due to his lack of output and ongoing injury problems.
Waller was purchased by the Giants in March 2023 for a draft pick. After signing a $51 million extension in 2022, his contract is valid through the 2026 campaign.
According to OverTheCap.com, Waller will earn a base salary of $10.5 million and be subject to a $14 million salary cap for the 2024 season. (In 2025 and 2026, respectively, that cap hit increases to $15.4 and $17.4 million.) He was a potential for a cut this offseason because he had no guaranteed money left on his contract.
Waller has demonstrated that, when healthy, he is a potent offensive weapon. 2019 and 2020 were his two greatest NFL seasons with the Raiders, with 197 receptions, 2,341 yards, and 12 touchdowns in total. However, injuries have kept him out of the field for 19 games since 2020.
In December, Waller made a commitment to use the offseason to figure out how to play more frequently. In 2024, the Giants will offer him that opportunity, and they’ll cross their fingers.
