Blinksportsnews247The Cincinnati Bengals fielded Dax Hill and Nick Scott to open the 2023 season and the safety positions after losing both Jessie Bates III and Vonn Bell.
After Scott showed himself to be untrustworthy, the Bengals signed rookie safety Jordan Battle, who performed admirably throughout the season.
But throughout the year, Hill struggled, and the secondary was harmed by his lack of experience at the position.
The Bengals’ starting secondary lineup for 2024 will mostly consist of the same guys. Battle and Hill, Mike Hilton, DJ Turner, and Cam Taylor-Britt.
But do they really need to?
The Bengals could use a boost at safety, but they also need a lot of help at other areas, like tight end, offensive tackle, and defensive tackle. Hill might be more comfortable covering Hilton at the nickel position, where he spent the majority of his time while playing for Michigan. Hill might be Hilton’s replacement as he approaches the final year of his deal.
The Bengals may be able to pair Battle with a different safety who is more at ease playing center field as a result. Because of his extraordinary athleticism, Hill could be a nightmare when he comes off the edge to cover the quarterback or stop the run.
Josh Proctor, Andre Sam, Tyler Owens, and Jaylin Simpson are in this year’s draft class at safety, while Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Jeremy Chinn, and Antoine Winfield Jr. are part of the 2024 safety free agency class.
