The Celtics had an available roster slot this season, he was on an affordable veteran minimum salary, and he is well-liked in the locker room. Boston acquired Xavier Tillman during the trade deadline in an effort to bolster their frontcourt depth.
Derrick White and Payton Pritchard stated on Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” on Monday that their teammates wanted Griffin back and had sought out to him in an attempt to get the return (hat thanks to Brian Robb of Mass Live).
“I’m not sure [if he will return].” We implore him to do so, Pritchard said to PMT.
Griffin was a player who was confident in his own identity, had discovered hobbies outside of basketball (comedy, for example), and was willing to move on from the sport. Even so, with a club that is currently the overwhelming favorite to win it all, it must be tough to pass up one more postseason run. Boston will be punished harder by the minimum contract because they have an open roster space and are already in the second tax bracket ($18.3 million above the luxury tax threshold). Would Griffin be amenable to it if the Celtics are?
