The Las Vegas Raiders will need to bolster their interior offensive line this offseason, particularly with guards Jordan Meredith and Greg Van Roten and center Andre James set to enter free agency. Given the wealth of potential in this year’s class at the guard position, the Raiders have a fantastic chance to do so in the NFL Draft. Among the top guards available in the 2024 NFL Draft class is Christian Haynes of UConn, who the Raiders should consider.
In his final year of college, Haynes started at guard for the Huskies in all 12 games. With just 12 sacks allowed during the season, he and the UConn offensive line tied for ninth place in the nation. Haynes was selected for the College Football Network and Associated Press All-American Third Teams.
The four years of starting experience that Christian Haynes has at UConn should make him a very interesting prospect as the draft draws closer. The Las Vegas Raiders need to add depth to the guard positions.
The previous season, Haynes started all 13 games at guard and was a part of an offensive team that finished with 191.0 rushing yards per game, good for 33rd place in the country. For the season, he was named to the Associated Press’s third-team All-America and Sporting News’ second-team All-America teams. Haynes had an 83.9 overall PFF grade for his 2022 campaign. In each of the 12 games Haynes started for UConn in 2019 and 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the Huskies’ 2020 season. Haynes participated in two games during the 2018–19 redshirt season.
