After agreeing to a one-year, $23.5 million contract with the elite Dodgers, Hernandez, a former outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays, expressed his desire to play in Boston to Ben Verlander on the “Flippin’ Bats Podcast,” saying he was “really excited” to hear of the team’s interest.
Verlander was informed by Hernandez that Boston and the Dodgers prevailed in the end. “We were attempting to extend our stay in Boston. There were just two years available. As I previously stated, the Dodgers presented me with the finest opportunity and possibility to negotiate a solid deal.
Hernandez was initially the target of the Red Sox, but in the end, their interest in him waned. A source informed Chris Cotillo of MassLive that the preliminary talks centered on a $28 million, two-year proposal eventually fizzled out.

Hernandez is a right-hander who may have been a valuable addition to the Red Sox, and he has been a successful batter at Fenway Park, stating that it is one of his favorite venues to play.
