Blinksportsnews247The Detroit Pistons reorganized their roster in a hurry during the trade deadline. The trade of Alec Burks and Bojan Bogdanovic to the New York Knicks was by far the largest move they completed.
Evan Fournier was one of the players the Pistons received in exchange for the two veterans. Some anticipated that the French guard, an older veteran, would be a buyout target. But according to a recent report from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Detroit intends to keep Fournier going forward.
“Evan Fournier has played 25 minutes each game in his two games since joining the Pistons. He was thrilled to be traded by New York and eager for his new opportunity in Detroit. After joining a struggling Detroit club, several in the NBA questioned whether Fournier would be able to sign a free agent contract; nevertheless, HoopsHype has heard that the Pistons intend to retain the Frenchman.”
Fournier played in just three games for the Knicks this season before being dealt to the Pistons. Nevertheless, Detroit has allowed him to play a lot of minutes. In his debut against the Lakers on February 13, he hit 40% from outside the arc and scored 13 points. A day later against the Phoenix Suns, Fournier repeated that performance with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
The Pistons may be evaluating Fournier before making a significant choice this offseason. He has a $19 million club option for the upcoming season. He would become the Pistons’ highest paid player as a result.
Fournier’s large deal may be used in a future trade by Detroit, or the team may choose to keep him as an experienced piece off the bench. However, the Pistons do not plan to let him go in the near future.
