Not just the Boston Red Sox are searching for ways to help the team right now; there are other teams as well. Spring Training is officially here, but there are still lots of teams wanting to add.
The Miami Marlins are one team that is still in the market for additions. Miami recently extended a contract offer to two-time All-Star Tim Anderson in an attempt to provide some depth to the infield, but negotiations have not yet concluded.
Adalberto Mondesí, the former infielder for the Red Sox, is another player who has been connected to the Marlins. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Mondesí might wind up with the Marlins if Miami is unable to get Anderson.
“But Miami has not done much this offseason, though sources say it would be surprising if the Marlins do not sign either Tim Anderson or Adalberto Mondesí to play shortstop, as The Athletic first reported,” Sherman stated. “Considering that Jon Berti turned 34 in January, the Marlins are aware that he is more of a utility player than a shortstop.
“Also Miami will be without ace Sandy Alcantara all year after he underwent Tommy John surgery last October.”
Mondesí was sent to Boston by the Kansas City Royals during the offseason, although he was never able to play for the team. Despite having to cope with a few injuries in the past several years, he has the potential to recover.
If healthy, he might be a good addition for Miami. Mondesí was a dynamic player prior to his injury. He was a strong defensive player and had remarkable speed. It seems as though a deal with Miami is possible.
